Ukraine Asks For 1,000 Howitzers and 300 Missile Launchers

Ukraine says it needs 1,000 howitzers, 300 missile launchers, 500 tanks, 2,000 armoured vehicles and 1,000 drones to defeat Russia. Top Ukrainian adviser Mikhail Podoljak published the list on Twitter on Monday.

Podoljak also writes that Ukraine is waiting for a decision from the defence ministers who will meet in Brussels on Wednesday. US Secretary of State Lloyd Austin, hosting the meeting, invited colleagues from around the world to discuss the crisis in Ukraine.

Dozens of countries have assisted Ukraine militarily with weapons since the beginning of the Russian invasion. At the end of April, for example, the Netherlands decided to send five armoured howitzers to the war zone. Kyiv has been asking Western countries for heavy weapons for a long time, but they are often reluctant to do so.

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said late last week that an artillery war was raging on the front lines and that Ukraine’s artillery dependency on arms support from Western countries. The deputy chief said that “everything depends” on what these countries will give because Russia has far more artillery pieces than Ukraine.
