Turkey is Still Waiting to Congratulate the US President

Turkey will not congratulate the winner of the US election until the results are final, “out of respect for the US and the American people.”

 

A spokesman for President Erdogan’s AK Party said that two days after Joe Biden was named Donald Trump’s successor.

Ankara did say over the weekend that it will continue to cooperate with the next government in Washington.

Turkey has a series of disagreements with NATO ally US, including the purchase of a Russian missile defence system and operations in Syria.

Russia and China are also waiting to congratulate the winner of the US presidential election until the results are official, as is Mexico.
