President Burundi 55 Died of Heart Attack According to Government

President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi passed away. He was 55 years old. A week of national mourning has been declared in the country.

 

In a statement, the government says that Nkurunziza has died of a heart attack. He was taken to hospital on Saturday because he was unwell.

He seemed to be better on Sunday, but yesterday morning his situation suddenly deteriorated. Prolonged CPR was to no avail.

His wife Denise is hospitalized with a corona infection in Kenya, but the statement does not mention that.

However, there are rumours that the president has died from the coronavirus. Nkurunziza has always dismissed the severity of the pandemic.

He and his wife said the virus would spread Burundi “because God protects their land.”
