Pirates Hijack A Ship and Take Hostages at Benin

Pirates have hijacked a container ship off the coast of African Benin and probably taken eight crew members hostage.

 

It concerns the Portuguese flag Tommi Ritscher of the German shipping company Gerd Ritscher, a representative of the shipping company in Singapore reported.

According to the Russian embassy in the city of Cotonou in southern Benin, at least three Russians are among the hostages.

The pirates attacked the ship when it was anchored near the port of Cotonou.

Naval forces from Benin and special forces from Nigeria were able to disembark eleven crew members who had gone to a special safety room on the ship in action on Tuesday. There are Benin Navy patrol vessels with the vessel.

Nothing is known about the demands of the pirates.
