Number of Corona Infections in Africa Passes 100,000

The number of corona infections in Africa has passed 100,000. This is evident from a count of the AFP news agency.
Across the continent, at least 100,002 people were infected, while 3,095 died as a result of the virus.
The coronavirus has hardest hit the countries of North Africa. Egypt (15,003 infections and 696 deaths) and Algeria (7,728 infections and 575 deaths) recorded the highest numbers.
In the south, South Africa and Nigeria, in particular, have been struck.
Africa is less affected by the coronavirus compared to Europe and the United States. In the U.S., more than 1.5 million people were infected, while the country registered nearly 100,000 deaths.
European countries have a total of almost 2 million cases of infection. More than 170,000 people have died from the virus.
Experts fear that the actual size of the coronavirus in Africa is more extensive than previously thought. This is partly because there is too little test capacity.
