Nancy Pelosi is Going to Taiwan in August

Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, will travel to Taiwan in August. That reports business newspaper Financial Times based on insiders.
It would be a House Speaker’s first visit to the Asian island in 25 years.
Pelosi wants to show support for Taipei with her visit, as the region is under increasing pressure from China. Beijing considers Taiwan a renegade province. Pelosi had already planned to travel to Taiwan in April but then got corona and had to cancel. At the time, China warned that a Pelosi visit to Taiwan would lead to severe countermeasures.
According to anonymous sources, the newspaper writes that the White House has expressed concerns about the planned visit. However, according to two sources, Pelosi’s visit in April was more justifiable because the war in Ukraine had just started. US President Joe Biden then also sent several high-ranking officials to Taiwan.
According to the newspaper, the trip to Taiwan is part of an Asian trip in which Pelosi also visits Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
