More Than 3 Million People Have Fled Ukraine

The number of refugees from Ukraine has risen to more than 3 million, reports the International Organization for Migration.

According to the UN refugee agency UNHCR, nearly 1.8 million of them have fled to neighbouring Poland.

Neighbouring countries such as Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Slovakia have also received many refugees. As a result, more than 300,000 people have travelled to western Europe. More than 150,000 of the refugees are non-Ukrainian.

According to the UN children’s rights organization UNICEF, refugee children stands at 73,000. That equates to 55 children every minute in the past few days.

The UNHCR estimates that many more people want to flee the war in the country. In addition, many are internally displaced, fleeing the Russian army that invaded Ukraine on February 24.
