Kremlin Ready for Peace Talks with Ukraine in Minsk
The Kremlin says it is ready to negotiate peace with Ukraine in Belarus’ capital, Minsk. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia would only negotiate if Ukraine surrendered itself.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has called on Putin several times to talk about peace and stop fighting. Ukraine says it wants to become a neutral country between Russia and the West.
The 2015 Minsk accords have been one of the few successes in diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Civil war had broken out there after an elected pro-Russian president was overthrown in 2014. The accords included a ceasefire that generally lasted until earlier this month.
