First Aid Planes and Helicopters to Tonga After Submarine Volcanic Eruption

Five days after the volcanic eruption near the Tonga archipelago, the first aid planes and helicopters have left. This has been communicated by the Australian and New Zealand authorities.

Two military planes are expected to land at the airport in the next few hours, where the runway was only cleared on Wednesday.

At least three people were killed in the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcano on Saturday. More than 80 percent of the population of the island group has been affected.

Tonga is also largely cut off from the outside world because the only cable that allows communication with the outside world was also hit.
