Chinese President Xi Jinping Says War in Ukraine Harms Everyone

Chinese President Xi Jinping has said in a telephone conversation with Joe Biden that a conflict such as the war in Ukraine is detrimental to all parties involved.

 

Peace and security are important to the international community, according to the Chinese leader. “The crisis in Ukraine is something we don’t want to see.”

Xi also told Biden that the mutual relationship cannot turn into a confrontation and that the countries should do everything together to get relations back on “the right path”.

The atmosphere between the countries has been tense for some time, partly due to Chinese support for Russia and the desire to annex Taiwan. On the other hand, the US supports Ukraine and wants Taiwan to remain an independent, democratically governed country.

According to Xi, the US and China must do everything they can to bring about world peace.
