Another 1.9 Million Americans Filed for Unemployment Benefits Last Week

Another 1.9 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week. The United States Department of Labor announced that.

This brings the total number of Americans who relied on the safety net in the corona crisis to approximately 42 million.

The figure is slightly lower than a week earlier when more than 2.1 million benefit applications were still registered.

Economists accounted for 1.8 billion Americans who volunteered for government support this week.

Due to the crisis and the measures to combat the virus outbreak, many companies have been closed, and staff are being massively expelled.

The gradual reopening of the economy has led to a drop in weekly aid applications, although these are still unprecedentedly high from a historical perspective.
