Americans Call Nuclear Plant Attack a War Crime

The US embassy in Ukraine has called attacking a nuclear power plant a war crime. The embassy tweeted after Russia’s capture of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, saying Vladimir Putin “has made his reign of terror one step worse” with the move.
Russian soldiers seized the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant near Energodar on Friday morning. Energodar is located on the Dnieper River, about 450 kilometres southeast of Kyiv, as the crow flies.
There was a fire in an outbuilding of the nuclear power plant.
According to the Ukrainian foreign minister, that happened after the complex was “attacked from all sides” by Russian ground forces. However, according to the nuclear watchdog IAEA, no elevated radiation levels have been found in the area.
